22nd Week of Sound, 2025 “The societal challenges of sound”

The Institute of Acoustics and Vibroacoustics of Peru

INPAVAC, within the framework of the 22nd UNESCO Week of Sound, in memory of the pioneers of Acoustics in Peru, will inaugurate the Acoustic Laboratory Architect Roberto S. Wakeham, with the opening of a reverberation chamber, material absorption testing room, Architect Luis ‘Cartucho’ Miró Quesada Garland

 

The Acoustic Laboratory will be the first of its kind in Peru, and in Posthumous tribute to the architects Luis Miró Quesada and Roberto Wakeham, pioneers of acoustics in Peru in the 60s, it will take their names.

On this occasion, a room will be opened for a reverberant chamber, and in the future also: a room for electroacoustic essays; a semi-anechoic chamber; a room for psychoacoustic studies; and a studio dedicated to recording Andean instruments and Archeoacoustics.

In addition, the Acoustic Laboratory will become a hub for innovation and development of sound-absorbing materials (using recycled materials), a Transfer Center and academic and scientific research, which will be an axis for congresses, symposiums and meetings of Regional and Acoustics international community.

The holding of an academic day will be confirmed, with the participation of national and international personalities linked to acoustics.

The inauguration of the Laboratory and the academic day will be broadcast live on the Internet.

  • Opening of the facilities of the First Acoustics Laboratory of Peru, which will house different rooms for testing construction acoustic materials, on this occasion there will be the opening a Reverberation Chamber.

Leopoldo Lituma Agüero, posthumous tribute to Architect Luis ‘Cartucho’ Miró Quesada Garland (1914-1994), who presided over the Peruvian Society of Architects between 1950-1951. As a professor he spread the importance of Acoustics in architecture and, representing Peru, he joined the Group of Acoustics of Latin America between 1968 and 1982.

Dr. Walter A. Montano from Argentina, historian and acoustics specialist, The soundscape in the post-pandemic Era, changes in attitude towards noise.
